New York Fashion Week looks

NYFW kick started with a snow storm strong enough to keep the average Eskimo indoors, however Fashion Week designers and runway starlets managed to rise above mother nature to bring us the anticipated fashion presentation of autumn and winter 2013/2014. Across the 8 days the catwalk showcased a strong sense of powering dressing with pencil skirts, blazers and cigarette pants featuring throughout the majority of designer looks. Sharp tailoring, accentuated waistlines and lots of layering played a big role on the catwalk which really appealed to me as they were all easily wearable pieces.

Feminine accents of floral prints were a popular feature. Oscar De La Renta went for an Asian floral vibe with contrasting colours which really stood out. My Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang favourites look like future red carpet hits with a beautiful choice of purples and softer floral prints. Marc Jacobs displayed various styles of the same pattern with a combination of shapeless to figure hugging pieces.

Black was of course a popular colour choice for the Autumn winter. The above are my favourite black looks for next season. Victoria Beckham always creates beautiful black pieces with beautiful minimalist silhouettes and shapes. Phillip Lim attached more of a casual vibe with a long length knitted jumper dress. Rodarte and Kenneth Cole adopted the 90’s trend into their collection which looked suitably cool with their use of contrasting materials and print.

This selection of catwalk looks represents a combination of NYFW recurring trends for next season.

Block colours and a continuation of the patchwork trend was certainly prevalent but was expressed in different ways like DKNY ( Also see Lacoste and Tommy Hilfiger). Prozena Schouler emphasized on layering, coats with gently sloped shoulders and 60’s style pinafores. Michael Kors opted for over sized jackets and coats but kept it clean with a fitted bottom half. Overall he embraced 70’s shapes. Oscar De La Renta romanticised his collection with a wide variety of colour choice and hints of fur along side leather.
