New York Fashion Week Style: Day 1

For New York Fashion Week the key thing in September is to keep in mind the intense heat. The average temperatures were around 32 degrees, which is quite hot for an Irish gal not use to that kind of weather.  For day one of NYFW, I opted for a bandeau jumpsuit with a more flared leg, meaning it would give a light and airy feel. Knowing I was coming to New York, I’ve wanted to team up with a U.S plus size brand that I have admired for some time called Eloquii. As I have a lot of American based readers that come to my blog, and while I do feature the likes of Asos and River Island that can be bought in the U.S too, I was keen to ensure there was an American brand for NYFW.

Their pieces are very modern with a lady like feel which is always a winner for me. The culottes jumpsuit style has been extremely popular over the last while and a trend that is definitely here to stay well into the Autumn Winter months, you’ll see variations of this style in funnel neck to one shoulder and halter styles. It’s something that can be used in a work appropriate way or a night out quite easily. It’s a firm favourite by the likes of Blake Lively, Victoria Beckham and many more.

While jumpsuits and culottes styles can be scary for some, what I liked about this overall look was how in some angles gave the impression of a midi dress and at other angles more of the jumpsuit effect.  If it’s a style that you’ve been apprehensive about, I feel that it’s definitely about striking a balance from colour, to cut and of course material that works for your shape and will really make you feel comfortable on working this trend. For example because I have more of an apple shape I added a thin delicate nude belt to identify my waistline a bit more. A block colour will also help to keep your look more streamlined as opposed to going for a strong print.  Here I’m wearing a U.S size 14, which is around a size 16-18 UK, it’s also a style that would be perfect for tall girls and those who are long bodied.
