The Winter Essentials

Over the last few years I’ve aimed to make October my ‘get ready month’ for the colder months ahead. I’m really sensitive to cold weather so I do tend to go all out when it comes to prepping for the frosty months, even down to thermal tights and socks! 🙂 Today’s post is in collabouration with Marks and Spencer Ireland where I’ll be showing four key Winter staples that will definitely have your back throughout the next few months but that will also be wardrobe friendly for the following year too.

The Winter Coat

A lot of us have the classic black coat somewhere in our wardrobes. Burgundy I find to be an underestimated classic colour and something that works against a great range of colours such as blacks, navies, browns or denim fabrics incredibly well. It’s also a nice subtle addition of colour in your wardrobe that definitely will not go out of fashion.

Today I’ve gone for a classic wrap style with waist tie detail. It’s something that’s going to work for every shape and bust type, which ranges from a size 6-22. There are a lot of double-breasted style coats out at the moment and shapeless cuts making it really difficult for those who are unsure of their shape. Double-breasted styles for example would work on tall frames or those with a long torso but they can look bulky for apple, pear and petite frames. Opting for a style like this will give you more freedom to decide where you want it to sit on your frame. It also looks just as chic left open too.

The Jumper Dress

Jumper dresses are the ultimate cosy essential but something that’s not always that easy to get right. This one is super soft that sits on the body in a delicate relaxed fit. It’s more structured than typical loose styles meaning it won’t hug your body in the wrong places or become too baggy.  It’s a really cosy and cute number with a touch of cable knit detail in a V shape that gives more of a flattering illusion effect.

Burgundy and navy are a beautiful combination together and a great alternative to black. You can also look to skinny jeans or black tights to go with this look if you wanted more coverage. Here I’m wearing a size L, which would be ideal for sizes 14-18.  The size goes up to XL so it would work for up to a size 22 easily.

The Winter Boots:

Boots are always something I get asked about. I wanted to show you this style today as something that would fuse day and night style very easily together. If you have sensitive feet in any way then these are certainly ones to keep in mind. M&S have selected shoes with Insolia technology. I own about four pairs from over the years and I can confirm they are really wonderful if you suffer in any way. It’s like an extra shock absorber that helps to distribute your foot weight evenly so you will find you can walk around in them for a lot longer than your typical styles. The block heel also gives that extra support and comfort which we all need for the Autumn/Winter.

The ‘IT’ Bag:

Crossover bag styles have been extremely popular over the last two years. I was definitely converted last year as it’s a style that’s so practical for everyday wear. I like to aim for bags this size also as it holds all the key essentials and a little more meaning it’s great for the work / life balance. It’s also very designer-esque and a bargain find too for under €50!
