Beauty Review: Skin Renewal from Swiss Clinic

Working as a model over the past 6 years, skincare has become a huge part of my daily routine. When I’m on a photo shoot or set you can have various makeup artists working on your face with layers and layers of makeup building up for lighting or different effects, which after a while can easily clogged up your pores or just impact your skin health in general. So when I was asked to review a new product from Swiss Clinic I was very open to hearing about it.

I’ve heard about the brand many times over the years with work, as they would have a great reputation abroad so I was really happy to hear they are now available in the UK too ( and hopefully Ireland soon!:) ) . Their Skin Renewal system that I’m reviewing today is an award winning system, which is essentially a full salon micro needling treatment to use at home.

I have tried micro needling in the past but because my job is quite sporadic it’s very hard for me to book a salon appointment. My day can start at 5am sometimes and end at 10pm so I would definitely miss out on this kind of thing. We all have some kind of busy schedule whether it’s work, university, running around after your little ones, which means we can all tend to put certain things on the back burner. I’ve been trialing this product out over the past few weeks so I think it will be of interest to a lot of people. For this post I haven’t used any foundation just so you can decide for yourself in the before and after photos what you think.  What is Skin Renewal/Micro Needling?

As mentioned above Swiss Clinics skin renewal would be the equivalent of what many people would know as micro needling. This kind of technique hit the beauty world a number of years ago but usually you would have to attend a professional salon for this which can cost an average of £90-£140 per session, while the Swiss Clinic Skin renewal set is £84 for all the essentials to do it at home yourself.

They have developed a set with both a 2mm Derma roller and their rejuvenating serum. The two items are equally important as they work in sync with one another. The skin roller itself contains around 540 micro needles ( don’t worry it’s not as painful as it sounds, in fact its not painful at all!). As you use the roller each needle makes delicate teeny tiny insertions into the skin, which means it alerts the skin that repair is needed and so collagen is produced to help the overall healing. The needling also helps to absorb the serum into your skin which penetrates the various dermis layers 300% more times that if you were you use it on its own.  This means plumper skin, but also a brighter complexion, and for key areas it can help get rid of scars or tone down fine lines / wrinkles.

The Process: The key thing is to have your skin completely clean before using the item with no makeup residue whatsoever. For me, as I have Polycystic Ovaries I’ve noticed my skin can become dull easier than before and my pores have been more enlarged too, so in this respect I knew the areas I wanted to target.

Simply use the roller over the specific area you want treated and use it in straight-line motions both vertically and horizontally a number of times. Definitely don’t rush something like this as you have to take your time (from start to finish it wont take more than 15 minutes out of your day). After you apply the serum let it sit into the skin to help skin recovery and help to seal pores. There’s no down time with it, you can go about your day as normal. You might notice slight redness in parts but it’s nothing some foundation or concealer won’t cover.

As the skin roller comes in a plastic container I keep it in the packaging for hygiene reasons but I would recommend if you are purchasing the Skin Renewal set to also look at their hygiene spray to apply to it each time you use the skin roller or some kind of hygiene spray suitable for skin.

How often do you use it?

For noticeable results you can use it every day for 5-7 days, then take a break for a week and come back to it. I found four days was more than enough for me to use then I came back to it after a week.

After photo: Three weeks after starting Skin Renewal

Overall I found the whole experience to be really easy. I started the treatment about two weeks ago, as it’s been a bit of a whirlwind of a month and my face just felt dull and tired from everything. I’ve noticed my skin feels a lot cleaner and smoother but also it feels brighter with less red patches. I found my makeup seems to sit on my skin a little better too. After three weeks you will notice slight changes like this and more so the longer you keep it up which I’ve heard from others who have used it also. The main thing for me is that I find it comforting to be able to use it at home so I’ve been able to use it at night if I wanted to before bed to make sure I keep in a routine up.
