Embracing Monochrome

Monochrome a style that I find to be incredibly underrated. It’s a style that can be incredible practical and versatile too.  For most of us, there are many times where we look to our wardrobes either in panic or dismissively with that complete and utter “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!” frenzy. Over the years I’ve found combinations and quick fixes that will help you get out of that fashion gutter of feeling overwhelmed and monochrome as a safety net is part of that. Some people might be reading this thinking, do people actually panic over fashion?! The answer for most of us is yes because life sometimes just gets in the way – washing hasn’t be done, ironing isn’t an option, or you have 5 minutes to get yourself together and out the door! Today’s post explores some monochrome outfit ideas to show that black and white can indeed still look chic and effective. What’s more is that it’s a style that won’t date so you can constantly repeat and recycled these kind of looks all year round… and you don’t have to spend a fortune either. Lou x

Look One

The first look is essentially working with block colours and basics. It’s a really easy and effective look to achieve, as seen today, or reversed with a black dress, an off white jacket and some edgy accessories. Similarly if you have a basic black or white skirt sitting in your wardrobe at home play around with top combinations- for example a band inspired or statement t-shirt, or something more formal.

Look two

Look two embraces monochrome to the fullest giving you options to really play around with fashion. Stripes are one of my favourite styles and something I think any size can truly wear. This particular dress is from the Julien MacDonald line at Debenhams which blends a shift dress and a shirt dress in one. If stripes aren’t ‘your thing’, opting for dresses and items with interesting prints, textures and shapes is definitely something to keep in mind. You can go as simple or a bold as you like with it and accessorising is extremely easy too.
