The Tux Look

Tuxedos have been a look which seems to continuously grab the interest of celebrities year in and year out.  It’s something that when done right can completely give that wow factor. It is also something which is really underestimated in wardrobes in terms of practicality, but it’s simply about breaking the look down to perfect fit and form to get it right every time.

The pieces I’ve chosen today would be a perfect example of ‘shopping around’. Suits can be extremely expensive and additionally you’re limited in terms of sizes and styles for petites and tall ladies. I had this tuxedo blazer in my wardrobe from Asos already which had a perfect length and cut to it. I wanted to show this style in a way that would be easy to achieve for every shape and bust type so I opted for a plain silk vest ( not cotton as it would take away from the look). It works for all busts as it’s cut straight across making it both day or night appropriate.

For trousers, I found this particular pair in Next which fitted really well around the waist and the legs. With this style, the cut is everything. You do not want something bagging or that would appear to look like a standard pair of trousers. When the shape is correct they will make you appear taller and leaner too. The pair I am wearing here fall just above the ankle which make them a perfect option to be worn with flat shoes during the day and I loved how they give both petite and tall options too.

To finish off a tuxedo look, the shoes are vital. Opt for a sharp pointed toe shoe to achieve more of a ‘Girl Boss’ approach. Colour wise anything goes, you can opt for print to cobalt blue, coral to crisp black like I’ve done here. I liked the patent finish to it which give another texture to a ‘blacked out’ look. For accessories I kept it simple with a nude clutch and my Marc Jacobs watch.
