Embracing Sequin Sparkle This Season

This week I’m embracing some ultimate sequin style for Style Me Curvy Christmas. Sequins are a great way to break out of a fashion comfort zone away from typical little black dress styles. So with this in mind I wanted to show a stand out look and to do so, I’ve teamed up with the brand Next for a true festive ensemble.

While I do tend to stick to black and golds when it comes to sequin styles, I decided to go all out opting for this vibrant hot pink number paired with a beautiful velvet biker jacket.

This dress is more of a shift dress effect which has a nice 3/4 length sleeve. It’s perfect for the festive party season and the winter chill that comes with it. For today I’m showing the look bare legged but it’s something that will look equally fabulous with black opaque tights too. As this is a shift dress style it also means a multitude of body types can wear this style as it won’t cling to a tummy area.

One key tip when buying sequin dresses is to see if the sequins are hard or soft. The sequins used on this dress would be extremely soft. This might sound silly but in the long run softer sequins won’t irritate your skin, it’s easier to wash and there is much less risk of any sequins falling/ catching in fabrics compared to harder disc styles.  I was told this on a fashion shoot a few years ago and I’ve sworn by it ever since!

The beauty about embracing a sequinned ensemble means that little accessorising is needed. While I opted for black accessories I did want to add some texture to it still, so I choose a velvet clutch and some mega lace up strap heels which is one of my favourite high heel styles to wear.

The jacket works as a great piece to pull everything together and has more of a soft drape effect at the front which is ideal for every kind of bust as it will adjust and sit on your body naturally. As velvet is such a trend favourite this season you’ll find this will easily mix and match with other outfits in your wardrobe from skinny jeans and a simple top, to various dress styles.
