The Cosy Winter Edit

Shopping for cosy Winter pieces is definitely one of my favourite times of the year. I used to hate it growing up as I was so unsure of my shape but over the years of trial and error, I finding layering to be a great way to work cosy Winter style regardless of shape or size. Over the next few weeks I’ll have lots of coat and winter inspired pieces but for today I wanted to highlight a simple but effect Winter grey look. Shades of grey are just as classic as blacks and burgundy’s; they’re always reliable year in and out. Today I’ve put together a look I felt you could pick any one piece or a full look to boost your wardrobe quite easily.

The Coat

Colour block to patchwork styles were a Catwalk favourite for AW17 and I couldn’t help but become  drawn to this specific style because it had a slight A-Line cut to it. The length works as that perfect in between style for more of a formal workwear coat or something more casual and in particular it’s a great find for someone who might have mixed proportions and looking for styles to balance you out – for example pear shapes to diamond or apple frames.

All In The Detail

While this doesn’t entirely classify as a statement jumper you will notice an influx of pearl detail this year from jeans, shirts, blazers and of course winter jumpers. It’s simple but effective adding to classic items in your wardrobe and ideal if you’re just looking for some added “oomph” to your style on a particular day.  A perfect “all rounder” winter jumper I find to be those that are more of a fine knit – they drape really well over the body meaning it’s still really flattering on any bust type or frame  and it makes layering with other items a much easier task . Style tip: If you’re not in the mood for a coat on the day you might consider a sleeveless gilet or a leather biker jacket.

The Leather Skirt

The leatherette skirt is back with a stylish bang this year and something I had been in two minds about personally until I tried it. I’ve had this skirt since New York Fashion Week when I partnered with Dorothy Perkins and I’ve worn it an insane amount of times since. I’ve always struggled in the past to try styles that work for me. Some can look quite cheap while others are just not flattering whatsoever. I find the high waisted styles with a kick flare style work as a great fail safe and I would say I prefer versions without the belt option as it gives you more outfit choices to mix and match with other items in your wardrobe. I’ve worn it in a more formal way with a glam top, a statement t-shirt, a long line black top for more of a dress effect, blazer combinations for a smarter look and of course for a more casual feel, the cosy jumper!

Over The knee

Some people can have mixed feelings on this kind of boot but it’s a style that we’ve seen consistently for the last few years return for the Autumn Winter period.  Dark greys similar to black over the knee boots will give you lots of style options for casual or formal appeal with tights to skinny jeans and of course dresses. If you’re not a fan of showing bare legs – look to the more Victoria Beckham inspired feel paired with a midi dress or longline skirt. Over the knee boots are also great way to add a different texture to your style and certainly extremely warm too! Style tip: If the top of the boots have elastane look to styles which have a tie back – this means that you can adjust the tightness to ensure they stay put for the day. If you want more of a slouch effect, look to styles like today where there is a good structure throughout and the top part of the boot at the thigh area is stiff – again meaning it will stay put and not drape or fall down.
