Travels of a curvy model: Cape Verde Part II

Travelling to different locations is something I’m used to with the nature of my job. Out of all of my trips, however, Cape Verde left a strong impression in various ways. To avoid repetition about some of the more cultural aspects of the area, you can check out the blog post of Cape Verde part 1 here. I was working there for a Dutch magazine called Big Is Beautiful, where we shot four different editorials. The finalset of editorials came out last month so now I can show you them online. Yay! You can see some behind the scenes images, details and an insight into the numerous places we shot around one of the islands below.

In the most recent magazine there were two 12 page editorials. One was aimed at bright floral prints. The other, on how to restyle outfits for a trip away. Prior to the first editorial we walked around different parts of the island to scout some interesting locations. The actual buildings in the area are really flamboyant and colourful which meant finding beautiful locations were quite easy. The buildings are influenced by the combination of a Portuguese and an Africa populace who are both heavily inspired by colour, even the local church was a brillaint royal blue! Take a look at some of the shots.

For the second editorial, it was all based around the busy travelling fashionista who wanted to utilise her items to the max. To shoot this we went to 12 different locations to shoot 12 looks. Yes, we were all exhausted afterwards but it was so worth it! The team hired a 4×4 truck for the day along with a driver so he could take us to the various locations. It turned out to be pretty useful as it was used as a prop for one or two images too.

While driving around we came across a number of interesting things including an original Volvo Bus, a very old rustic petrol station and even a bull. Yes there is a shot with me posing near a bull.eek! One of my favourite shots was when we came across this most beautiful horse in a small field. It was like something out of a movie and he was a total natural in front of the camera which was quite funny!

Behind the scenes

This is my favourite photo from the trip. I was posing for about two minutes before the team started laughing. It was only then that I realised these two kids had jumped up on the wall to pose and be part of the shoot. It even made the behind the scenes section in the magazine itself which was really sweet.

A shot in an abandoned carnival truck. It was for an accessories head shot which looked pretty cool.

Having my trousers fixed while trying not to loose my balance in these amazing Steve Madden leopard print heels.

Group shot! 🙂
