Soap & Glory – The Yule Monty limited edition gift set review

For my first review of 2014, I wanted to start off with something fresh and new. As a creature of habit I do have my favourite brands like Vichy, but this year one of my aims is to explore different products and brands a lot more. With this in mind I went to my local Boots on St Stephens day to see what goodies I could pick up in the sales. This Soap and Glory kit was very hard to miss especially as it was marked down for less than half price – €77/£60 down to €20/£18! I had read some reviews in the past about the brand from other beauty bloggers, so decided it was a wise bargain purchase. For the blog of course 😉 .

‘ The Scrub Of Your Life’  has a lot of similarities to Sanctuary’s body scrub. Very little is needed. I used a scrubbing mitt to apply it which I would always recommend. It smells fantastic and the scent lingers throughout the day.

Beside this is ‘ Righteous Butter ‘ – a heavy duty moisturiser. It’s quite thick as a product so I would use this only for very dry skin days or for tough areas like elbows and knees. It has aloe vera in it which is something I like to look out for in moisturisers as it has great natural healing properties for your skin.

‘Sugar Crush’ body wash is really fresh and fruity with a lot of citrus aromas. It’s has a real wake up effect to it, so you do feel really refreshed in the mornings. The ‘Butter Yourself ‘ moisture lotion is a perfect companion after the body wash. It’s much lighter than the ‘Righteous Butter’ so it is ideal as an every day moisturiser. It dries in quickly too which I liked most, mainly because I hate that sticky sensation a lot of moisturisers leave after you’ve put your clothes on.

‘Hand food’ is a really nice product. I need to get a handbag sized version actually because this one is a little too big to carry around all the time but it’s great to come home to. It smells very fresh and gives a silk like effect to your hands. ‘Heel Genius’ has a thicker consistency than your standard foot moisturiser. It’s a very light blue (in case some of you might be allergic to colourings) with Macademia oils, menthol and a number of fruits. Overall the menthol can be smelt the most out of the fragrances but I wouldn’t consider it overpowering. It was nice to soothe my feet after a long day on a shoot. For best results with any foot cream, always apply it just before bed then cover your feet with a pair of cosy socks- nothing too tight so it won’t wipe off the cream. The next day you will have feet softer than a baby’s bottom! 🙂

These two items were an added bonus to the set. ‘Extreme Plump’ is as you may have guessed is an extreme volume lipgloss. The shade is quite natural looking, almost like a sheer gloss with just a hint of pink. I probably won’t use it again because I have never liked the tingling feeling which those kind of lip glosses give to your lips. But I tried it for this post and I can definitely tell you my lips were noticeably bigger within two minutes. So if you do like this kind of enhancing lip gloss you won’t be disappointed by this product.

I’m not going to go into too much detail with this mascara as I feel it deserves a separate review of it’s own which I am going to do. However I will say that if you like Max Factors 2000 Calorie mascara then you will love ‘Thick & Fast’.

‘Peaches and Clean’ is their 3-in 1 purifying cleanser. You massage it into your face then rinse with water which helps melt away any fine bits of makeup that might be resting in your pores. It contains Oxyginseng properties which promised to have your face feeling bright and revived quite quickly. Personally I didn’t have that energised feeling that I have experienced with other cleansers but overall it was a nice cleanser that was quick and easy without any fuss. It’s suitable for all skin types but if you have very dry skin this may not be for you.

The Soap and Glory bag itself is an exclusive Jonathan Saunders print bag which is great for storing things. I’m using it at the moment for storing all my essentials that I need when I’m working abroad. It’s a soft case too so you can put it away easily or bring it with you on a trip as it compress’s perfectly into a travel bag.

Overall I was extremely pleased with my bargain find. I’ve put a price list of each product below which are available in all Boots stores. Individually they are very well priced for what you are getting. It’s nice to try something new and I will certainly be looking more into their makeup side of things if their mascara is anything to go by. If anyone has tried out more of their makeup or body range then I’d love to hear from you!
