My hair care favourites

Hair care is one of my favourite things when it comes to beauty products. Probably because it’s what I seem to spend most of my money on. As I work full time as a model it means my hair can get over styled quite regularly which means I have to pay close attention to my hair in order to keep it in good condition and prevent breakage.

In general my hair is pretty thick and I would say fairly long now, but this wasn’t always the case. It’s taken a number of years to finally find a good hair balance with various products. I’ve chosen nine key products for this post which I think are fantastic and which vary in price point, from the luxury to the bargain find.

Using heated products from hair dryers to hair straighteners can really dehydrate our hair making it more prone to split ends. As a result I look for products to really bring moisture back into my hair. Moisture Recovery is by a brand called Joico which you can mainly get online or in boutique salons. It has a slight blue tint off it and it is packed to the brim of hydrating qualities – a lot more than supermarket brands. I use this every second wash to help lock in moisture. It also works great teamed with the Aussie detangling spray which I’ll mention later on in this post, together they are brilliant when it comes to brushing out any knots in your hair or if you are looking for intense TLC hydration. Shampoo : 300ml €14.50/£11.50 Conditioner: 300ml €14.50/£11.50

Best for Value :

I’ve used L’Oreal Elvive colour protect for a really long time now, they’re great for those days where your might be coming up to getting your highlights or colour done and you just need a boost to get you through those days coming up to your hair salon appointment! The bottles are generously sized and the smell is beautiful.

Price: €7.00/£5.50 each

Dry Shampoo is something I think everyone should own. Theres a myth out there that you should wash your hair everyday but I’ve been told by so many professionals not too as it will infact damage and break you hair fibres much quicker. Dry shampoo essentially absorbs any excess grease and gives an immediate revived look to your hair. I was sent this sample of Pantene Pro V’s Instant Refresh dry shampoo recently and I was really delighted with it because it has that gorgeous Pantene scent which I love, while giving a really fresh and uplifting feel. Roots are always the biggest giveaway as they can look greasy very quickly but I found very little of this spray was needed and it masked the key areas I wanted quickly without giving overly powdery look which many other dry shampoo’s can do.With any dry shampoo products I would always spray from a distanced as too close you will get a talc powder look to your scalp. Price €5.15 / £4.12

 Keeping blonde hair blonde

If you have highlighted or  coloured treated hair,  you might notice from time to time it can have some brass like tones or even an orange look off it. This is because certain products we use on a daily basis can cause a build up on the hair, anything from hairspray, perfume, hair gels and oils. So once a week I use Schwarzkopf Colour Freeze purple shampoo which lifts my hair completely and stripes away any excess build up from the week. The best value I found was here for €8.87/£7.09 . In salon services stores you will pay around €10/£7.99 and in salons between €15/£11.99 & €20/£15.99.

Leave In Conditioner:

I first bought Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance on a whim about 2 years ago while on holiday because as anyone with long hair will tell you things can get somewhat ‘cray cray’ when it comes to brushing out knots or a day at the beach. The smell is great, it feels really light and you don’t have any kind of residue feeling which I find with alot of other leave in conditioners. I always look for something that feels fresh yet and wouldn’t affect styling your hair in a certain way. It’s also great for creating a beach babe hair look or loose curls if you apply quite generously then follow up with a french plate. Price: €5.80/£4.60

Hair Masks:

Hair masks are an absolute must when it comes to my haircare box. I aim for a hair mask once week, but if theres been a lot of heat products used on my hair in a particular week then I would use one nearly every time I wash my hair. The products above are the three main items I am currently using.

Redkin do a variation of great masks for coloured hair from Anti-snap to the one I am currently using, All Soft. At night I will apply it to dry hair, concentrating more so on the mid section to the ends of my hair. Because masks can be a bit messy I tend to tie my hair up in a loose top knot before bed to avoid any hair stuck to face nastiness the next day! Retails between €23/£18 –  €28/£22 depending on the store so it pays to shop around and online too.

For my bargain find 3 Minute Miracle Shine is just beautiful. You hair will feel like silk instantly and the smell is fantastic. For €6.50/£5.20, I have yet to find a mask that comes close in terms of quality at that value.

Joico is my saviour, it would certainly be my heavy duty hair mask that gives Victoria Secret Angel hair qualities after you’ve blow dried your hair. It’s a tad pricey at €25/£20 but it something I have been repurchasing since January of this year and I haven’t looked back.
