Monochrome Summer

The classic monochrome combination continues to be a favourite trend of Spring Summer 2014. And why should it not when you consider how easy it is to achieve, not to mention its longevity throughout the seasons. Derek Lam showcased a variety of minimalist ways to wear this trend on NYFW, where as David Komo asserted more interest in symmetry and linear detail. This look today is inspired by a fusion of the two.

Fit and flare style dresses are one of my favourite styles as they are comfortable and flattering for every body type. It’s an ideal style if you are looking for wedding guest looks, ideas for prom or graduation styles. This dress is from Lipsy, which I wouldn’t normally shop in. Usually I would take an 18 in some of their pieces but this dress is actually true to size, here wearing a size 16. The fabric has a good stretch material so perhaps thats why I was so lucky!haha. Regardless, it’s extremely comfortable and a perfect addition for the Summer whether you want to pair the look with some sandals or dress it up as featured here.

With the nature of our unpredictable climate, we are never out of the woods when it comes to the word Summer. A good quality biker jacket with interesting detail I think is perfectly appropriate to creating a glamourous but edgy look. The one featured here is from H&M which you can also see in another outfit post here.

For ladies above 5 ft 10′ this dress may not be for you as it would be extremely short. For petite ladies it would probably sit just around the knee. Normally I prefer my dresses a little longer but the design had my style written all over it so I couldn’t resist.

For accessories I wanted an excuse to showcase my new ear cuff from River Island, so everything else centered around that. As a result I kept it simple with a light gold intertwined bracelet and some stacked rings. The clutch is a nice impulse of colour on such a dull day but a simple white clutch would make a lovely alternative too, in keeping with the look.
